In my overwriting series, I discussed the "babbling" phenom and how it can hamper pacing. Sometimes it's better to tell than show. Sometimes.

Donna: Ooh, that's a great topic. I'll have to give it some thought and post in the next few weeks.Laurel Garverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03657218435228802535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4263988256560129564.post-53829844737745723352011-11-10T23:57:50.243-05:002011-11-10T23:57:50.243-05:00I'm more apt to write short, fragmented senten...I'm more apt to write short, fragmented sentences than run ons; but I do love my semi-colons :)

My issues are in knowing when to write a long sentence and when to keep it short and quick paced. In the first case, there are two named subjects, "It" and "you". In the second case, the named subjects are "Rocco" and "he".Laurel Garverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03657218435228802535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4263988256560129564.post-62012746154926823852011-11-10T10:36:36.353-05:002011-11-10T10:36:36.353-05:00Thanks Laurel. In my fiction for teens, I avoid them. Semis strike me as fitting best in nonfiction and academic writing. But that's just me. J.K. Rowling uses them a little in her Harry Potter series.Laurel Garverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03657218435228802535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4263988256560129564.post-78834301753833362342011-11-10T09:28:46.649-05:002011-11-10T09:28:46.649-05:00Jessica: I have to keep reminding myself that even...Jessica: I have to keep reminding myself that even though I've mastered the small stuff, it's the meta-level story that matters most.

Faith: I'm sure there is a technical grammar term, but I didn't have the energy to look it up.
