The truth is I'm on day five of a nasty respiratory infection and I'm getting worse instead of better. So I'm going back to watching goofy, nostalgic TV (everything from Gidget and the Partridge Family to Three's Company and The Three Stooges) on this new station called "Antenna TV." They have the best tagline: "Vintage, without the funny smell."
I've nearly depleted my haul of books from the library. Maybe I'll take another stab at reading
Finnegans Wake. That one's on my bucket list.
How do you while away the hours on sick days? What books are you determined to read before you die?
I read! Watching Disney movies is good on sick days, too. They cheer me up!
ReplyDeletePS) Hope you feel better soon!!! Take care of yourself, Laurel!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I'm sorry to hear you're sick. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm becoming a "one-day-at-a-time" person, so my plan is to finish the book I started, which is "Beauty: The Invisible Embrace" by John O'Donohue. It's a philosophical book and very poetic, too.
:( so sorry you're sick...Sounds like you're doing what I do when feeling poorly--watch movies and read.
ReplyDeleteI'm sick too. I did some research on the net on Sat. but by Sunday I was in bed. I read, watch movies. When the bed gets boring, I switch to the couch. I really try to do nothing when I'm sick. It keeps me in perspective for when I feel better.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteTry playing happy music and drink lots of tea!!
oh, take it easy. Lots of Thera-flu and warm blankets... I just started Matched, so we'll see~ :o) <3
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your nasty sickness. Take this time to rest. Both my kids had some cough/sore throat thing over the weekend and now I feel a tickle in my throat. Will bombast it with every weapon in my arsenal.
ReplyDeleteHmm, my sick days are divided between so-sick-all-I-can-do-is-sleep, or not-sick-enough-to-be-in-bed. If I were ever in that situation, I'd probably watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice or Godfather I and II, or Raiders I and III, or old Jet Li Kung Fu flicks.
Lots of naps, and homemade chicken soup does it for me. Hope you're feeling better :)
ReplyDeleteI love watching movies, too. Depending on what I have, reading doesn't always work since I might be too drowsy to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteI have stacks classics I keep meaning to read, but somehow I just never get around to them (or else some new, hip YA release takes their place in line!). I do like light and fluffy reads when I'm feeling bad though.
Hope you feel better soon, Laurel!
ReplyDeleteOh, feel better, Laurel! On sick days, my favorite thing is to nap shamelessly. Ah, sweet indulgence! :-)
ReplyDeleteUsually if I'm sick enough to take a sick day, I'm SICK. Like passed out on the couch alternately hoping to die or be taken to the hospital sick. Having said that...hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI watch movies, usually. If I'm too sick, I can't focus on the book and I have to read things over and over again . . .
sleep. I love sleep and promise to never again take sleep for granted. (My little baby gal is 4 weeks old today.) sleep and i haven't hung out in so, so long!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI usually watch old sitcoms on television, or on netflix instant viewing, where I developed a strange obsession with Kate and Allie. (weird) I've tried 4 times to read Atlas Shrugged, so that's on the bucket list. I hope you feel better soon Laurel! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the well-wishes, everyone. Taking decongestants made me too wired to nap, but my hubby finally fixed his laptop power cord so we could watch Netflix instant view somewhere comfy. The DVD we had in was a depressing-sounding award winner, "Waltzing with Brashir". I preferred watching old "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" episodes. There's something about Britain that I find comforting. I chalk it up to Mary Poppins. :-) Now I must catch up with posts I missed...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you're still sick. Keep resting and relaxing and don't stress!

Oh yuck. So sorry that you're sick. But that TV station sounds like all kinds of fun. Boy, I miss all those good old programs.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to admit that I have no bucket list for reading. I've always just read what I wanted to.
Hope you feel better soon and let me know how Finnegan's Wake goes.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better! I def. watch tv that my kids can watch with me. Anything to distract from the misery. :)
ReplyDeleteSick days usually consist of bed and reading. Sometimes gaming if I can make it to the computer. Hope you feel 100% soon. :)
