Well, friends, I'll be at the hospital tomorrow for surgery and off my feet for a while after that. I might be back online in days or in weeks. It's hard to predict how recovery will go.

In the meantime, feel free to drop me some film recommendations. I tend to watch a lot of quirky independent films. My top favorite movies are Amelie, Lars and the Real Girl, and Amadeus to give you a sense of my taste. Please no gut-splitting humor; I don't want to pop any sutures. :-)

  1. I can't for the life of me think of a film recommendation at the moment but I just wanted to say good luck and I'll be thinking of you!

    1. Thanks, bru! I wish I could say I'll be lying around composing lots of poems, but I suspect I'll feel too gross to do so.

  2. Oh, so sorry. I hope all goes well with the surgery and recovery.

As for movies; lying in bed requires multiple series. LOTR, Matrix, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribean, Star Wars . .

    Take care of yourself.

    1. Thanks, Donna. My daughter has been watching LotR films over and over all winter, so I've had my fill of those. I would enjoy a HP marathon though. I think I've only seen one of the Pirates movies--those look fun too. Thanks!

    1. Thanks, Shelley. It will be nice to waited on hand a foot for a few days, I have to admit. :-)

  4. Dan in Real Life is one of my favorite movies. A quirky kind of indie starring Steve Carrell (who is really good in this, surprisingly so.) Let's see, A Good Year with Russell Crowe. I actually just watch it for the scenery and the music. Although the movie is pretty good too.
LadyHawke, with a very young Michelle Pfiefer. Then The Story of Us with a middle aged Michelle Pfiefer. I think that's about all I've got.

I hope everything goes well with your surgery.

    1. Anne: I really, really enjoyed Dan in Real Life, the plot put the MC through some hilariously agonizing stuff and was still so touching. Great, great movie. And Ladyhawke is one I remember watching a dozen times in college--it was a "cult classic" among my friends at least. I'll check out your other two recommendations, thanks!

  5. I'm sorry to hear that you'll have to undergo surgery and I hope it will bring about the desired results, and much more.

Ha! The first movie that came to mind as I read your post is Crazy Stupid Love, another Steve Carrell flick.

At the other end of the spectrum, I think this may be a great time to watch Godfather I and II back to back.

    1. Thanks, Yat-Yee. I might have to wait on the comedy till belly laughs aren't painful, but the descriptions look fun. It's been ages since I saw the Godfather movies--at a drive-in, believe it or not. :-)

  7. Good luck with your surgery and recovery! I loved Lars and the Real Girl, too! I loved it so much I watched it twice before I returned it to Netflix.

  8. I hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly. I don't watch a ton of movies, but one that came to mind when you mentioned quirky, independent films was SLIDING DOORS. I know that's an old one now! Have you ever seen LADY JANE? That's a really old one, but it's one of my favorites. But if you're worried crying will hurt your sutures, skip it!

  9. Best wishes for your surgery (argh--"on the chopping block"?? LOL) Funny about not popping sutures. :) Have you seen Ever After? Stranger Than Fiction? Um...Benny and Joon? Memento? (a mind-bender)

Ooo!--and I love The Count of Monte Cristo.

  10. Hope your surgery went well and you're up and about (but slowly). I also loved the Count of Monte Cristo. Take care of yourself!

  11. Laurel, Have a speedy recovery.

Here's a quirky but not funny film - I Am Love - with Tilda Swinden. Very beautiful scenery.

All best, your poet friend, Madeline

  12. Keeping you in my thoughts - I hope the surgery goes well and that there are no complications. Keep us updated!

Hmm, the most recent movie I watched was Good Will Hunting. Now THAT is an awesome movie. I highly recommend it. The script is fantastic and there are juicy hunks in the movie (i.e. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon). ;)

I have some awards for you at my blog by the way! Hope you have a lovely week.
