Attention greater Philly-area writer bloggers--a local get together will be happening soon. My CP Simon Larter and the lovely Frankie Diane Mallis of First Novels Club have been trying to plan this event for months now. If you'd like more details, see Frankie's post HERE. I look forward to meeting some of you fine folks in real life!

Don't forget to enter my contest!

I spent yesterday on the couch rewatching the entire A&E Pride and Prejudice miniseries and guzzling tea between bouts of seal-bark coughing. (Is it possible for adults to get croup?)

What comfort films do you pull out when you're sick?

  1. I love to watch Straight Talk w/ Dolly Parton, The Cutting Edge, or Overboard when I'm sick - fun movies with nothing too emotional. :-)

  2. Believe it or not, P&P (although mine has a BBC symbol on it because I bought it in England)! My second choice is Sense and Sensibility. Yep, sucker for Jane Austen.

  3. I am with you on Pride and Prejudice, Laurel. It's my fave. The runners-up are Casablanca and Out Of Africa. For silly viewing, I love School Of Rock. Hope you guys in Philly have a great get together.

  4. Feel better! When my kids were little and not feeling well, we'd watch tons of movies. As much as I hated to see them unwell, the time together was nice. As for me when not feeling well, I will pop in a movie, like Sense and Sensibility or Anne of Green Gables. But the latter needs a good block of time, for you have to watch all the parts to see how it ends!

  5. I'm a Pride and Prejudice couch flopper too.

I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope you are adding some honey to your tea. It helps soothe the throat.

I'll check her website and check my calendar...I hope I get to get to meet up with y'all. :)

I hope you feel better soon,
    Lola

Philly is *just* out of my reach, otherwise I would have loved to meet up with a bunch of bloggers!

  7. Sorry you're under the weather, Laurel.

I'm going to check out that post. Maybe we'll get to meet. :)

    Blessings,

  8. That is so cool! You guys are going to have so much fun!! Why does Philly have to be so far away from Indy???

  9. Shannon: I've never seen any of the three you mention. Sound like I should when I'm in the mood for something light and fun.

Jenna: I also love Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow (though some Austen purists hate it). It was one of my favorites to read.

Roxy: there is something about a more languidly paced film that makes me feel better. :-) But yes, a little silly now and then is great too. I love this old John Cleese movie Clockwise when I need a laugh.

Karen: I love those both too, but since I own them on VHS, it would mean retiring to the lumpy old couch in my daughter's messy playroom. I bet you would like Wives and Daughters--a miniseries on the Elizabeth Gaskell novel about a girl in the 1840s whose life is turned upside down when her widowed father remarries.

  10. Lola: I have a weird averson to honey--the fact it is made by bugs grosses me out, frankly. LOL.

Hope you can make it to the gathering!

Shelley: sorry to hear we're a little too far away. I'd love to meet you.

Susan: I didn't know you were local to me. It would be great to meet you.

Carol: This is why I wish Star Trek transporter technology were real. We could just beam you over for a fun evening!

  11. I absolutely LOVE A&E's P&P!!

    Colin Firth as Darcey (swoon)

I also like the movie, Knight's Tale. It's so cheesy, the mix of modern and medieval fantasy. But I can watch that silly movie over and over again.
